Me Chess Book is a free browser tool that turns your Lichess games into a printable chess book. It has no accounts, no newsletter and no advertising. This notice explains the very small amount of information the tool touches, and why.
Who is responsible
Me Chess Book is published by HappyPaul55, who is the data controller for anything described below. You can contact the controller through happypaul55.com or the project repository on GitHub.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for, store or share any personal information. In particular:
- There is no sign-up, login or account of any kind.
- We set no cookies and use no analytics, trackers or advertising pixels.
- The book you create exists only in your browser. It is never uploaded to us and is gone as soon as you close or reload the page.
- There is no server-side storage of your games, your settings or your book.
Fetching your games from Lichess
To build a book, your browser talks directly to Lichess — it never passes through our servers. It does two things:
- It looks up the Lichess username you type, to confirm it exists.
- It downloads that account’s public games (the same games anyone can see on the player’s public profile), together with any analysis Lichess has stored.
Those requests go to lichess.org from your own browser, under your own
connection. HappyPaul55 does not receive, store or see your username, your games
or the resulting book. Lichess’s handling of those requests is described in the
Lichess privacy policy. Only enter a username you
are happy to query on a public API — it is a public profile, not a secret.
Third parties
- Cloudflare hosts this website and serves its files.
- Lichess receives the username and game requests your browser makes.
Neither is used to build a profile of you, and we do not sell or share data with anyone else.
Lawful basis
Where any of the above counts as personal data, it is processed on the basis of our legitimate interests in operating a free tool (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR). The only information involved is a public Lichess username and public game records, it is not stored by us and it is not linked to you, so the impact on your privacy is minimal.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to be informed, to access, to rectify, to erase, to restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. Because we do not store any personal data about you, in practice there is usually nothing to access or erase. You can raise any concern with us through happypaul55.com, or with the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Changes
If this notice changes, the “last updated” date at the top of this page will change with it.
